My family lived all around the distillery and many worked there. I was extremely happy to see what the original building looked like. All that is lift is the foundation. A Wathen married a great, great-grandson of the Basil Hayden Sr. and their son, my great grandfather, was the master distiller at Wathen distillery in the 1890s before he eventually settled in Canada to make whiskey there during the prohibition. I am interested in visiting Kentucky to see some of the distilleries linked to my family history. I know all about the Hayden side of the family but very little about the Wathen distillery today. I'd be grateful of there are any distilleries or sites you could recommend to a fellow Wathen descendent. We are quite proud of the time our family was associated with this brand. Proudly serve it to all friends. Have a copy of a handwritten note by Lewis Hayden, brother of RB given PS and Ferrell giving add rights for the use of the trade mark logo. Kind of fun. Mom is a Wathen, and it has always been said in my family that, "All the Wathens made whiskey, some legally"..... I met the current master distiller of Wathens whiskey a few years ago at an event, now the Medleys distilling and bottling under the Wathen label are carrying a long tradition forward.
