The embossing was sometimes done to prevent the bottles reuse by other companies. My suggestion is that when you want to research the provenance of an embossed bottle you go first to the www.pre-pro.com site and click on brand names. This was a list compiled years ago by Bob Snyder and has all pre-Pro trademarked whiskeys and many that were not, giving the distiller or distributor. You then can search the name of the individual or company elsewhere on that site. Robin Preston who runs the site has done a great job. While he does not provide the personal information that my blog does, it will help direct your search. I currently have just under 400 posts about pre-Pro whiskey men and hope to get to 500. As for seeing pre-Pro labels no good ideas except keep watching eBay. One hint: Any label that has the alcoholic "proof" on it -- as required by law in 1934 -- is not pre-Pro. If it has no such designation, it almost certainly is pre-Pro.
